Mindfulness: being present

Sometimes we are living in our minds. We are disappointed if the reality of an experience doesn’t match the picture we have built in our minds. Sometimes… we are thinking of other matters so much that we can’t appreciate  an experience, a trip, a fun outing or a great meal… we are thinking so much of what we want to say or what was said before that we miss what is being said… Sometimes our expectations can get in the way of our enjoyment even if the reality is 10 times better than what we’d expected. All these would result in disappointment, depression and the feeling of being let down.
There is only one solution: mindfulness. Living in the Now and appreciating the present. Looking around you and actually seeing everything, listening to the sounds and what people are saying instead of hearing what you think they are saying… not interpreting or looking for meanings behind others’ words (since when you are busy doing it, you will miss the rest of the conversation)… really participating and getting engaged in an activity instead of thinking how it could be better… In short, living outside of your mind and turning off your thoughts.
